District II Cup Champions - November 21,22, 2009

    The Gunners 98 Red continued their successful season by winning the championship game in the District II Cup, U11 Gold division, qualifying for the final game with 24 points. Solid performances in the preliminary games locked in their championship appearance, with 3-0, 4-0 victories, and 1-1 tie.

The championship game was a hard fought match against a formidable Almaden Mercury Green team, who themselves had 23 points in the preliminary round.  The Gunners jumped out to a 1^st half, 1-0 lead, only to give up a goal with 3 minutes to play in the game.  A fiery, post-game, assessment by coach Batty provided a mental lift to the players, some of whom were in the first extra time game of their young soccer careers.

         The Gunners went back onto the battlefield, and fought to score early in the 1st OT period.  The rejuvenated defense  held the opponent scoreless in the 2^nd OT period, securing the championship title for the Gunners. Despite the team having only one substitution available on Saturday, and two on Sunday, the weary Gunners ignored their fatigue, finished their work, and raised the 1^st place trophy, above their heads. 

Well done, District II Cup, Gold Division champs! 

The 2009 Fall season concluded with a 7-2 victory over the San Carlos Typhoon, earning the Gunners 98 Red the Division 2 title. Their well-deserved first place finish was a result of an undefeated season, ending with a total of 24 points, with 7 wins, 3 ties, and no losses.  In 10 games, the Gunners scored 21 goals and gave up only three, two of those in the final game of the season. 

           Defensively and offensively, the players have stepped up their games to a higher level and are continuing to make excellent progress.  Keep up the hard work Gunners, Division 1 will be challenging!

Diablo FC Halloween Classic - October , 2009  - Champions

   The CV Gunners 98 Red took the Championship title home after playing beautiful soccer, especially on the final day when the championship appearance was in limbo.  Game 3 proved to be one of the best efforts put out by the scrappy, tail-busting Gunners.  The Gunners scored 11 goals and the always stingy defense allowed only 2 goals in the preliminary round. 

       The final was played against America USA Hidalgo who themselves scored 16 and gave up 4 in their preliminary round.  The Gunners teamwork against the physical Hidalgo team resulted in a    7-0 victory and the tournament title.  Great job Champions!

   The CV Gunners 98 Red made it to the Championship game, only to be turned back byTeam Lokomotiv, in a well fought battle.  The Gunners played skillfully within their bracket scoring10 goals and giving up 2.  Lokomotiv also had a strong showing in their bracket with 22 goals for and 5 against. 

        The Gunners had their chances in the final game yet were only able to net 1 goal against a strong and physical defense.  Congratulations to the Gunners Red 98 for a successful 2009 Fall season, opening tournament.
